Pace yourself and your child

It is very important to note that each child progresses at their own pace. Please find a a pace that is suitable for both you and your child. Avoid the enthusiasm of combining several lessons, or skipping lessons ahead. It is important to progress as per the lesson plan, and allow your child to fully absorb each sound and letter.

It is also important for you to provide positive reinforcements, feedback and make corrections immediately upon occurrence. For instance, if a child is pronouncing the sound/word  “almost correctly”, it is up to you to repeat the sound/word correctly till the child pronounces it accurately.

Please also work with your child using positive reinforcement, rather than scolding, or harsh tones of voice.

Practice on yourself

Before you begin teaching your child, it may be a good idea to pretend that your child is next to you, and present each lesson out loud. This will give you – the parent – an opportunity to either quicken or slow down your pace, increase or decrease your volume, and communicate the lesson in a way that is most appropriate for your child to absorb.

All set? Now let’s get started.
