parent-orientation

Dear Parent,

Teaching children to read well is one of the most joyful gifts you can grant them. Research has shown the multiple benefits of reading – for both children and adults alike. From vocabulary to imagination, from language to self-expression, from intellect to emotional quotient, the benefits are endless, and so I will not go into explaining them in detail.

Some important points to remember:

  • This program is appropriate for preschool children (approximately 2 years – 6 years)

  • This program can also be used for children who have been in preschool / kindergarten, but have not learned to read.

  • The only materials you will need are these e-resources. No flashcards, no lesson plans, no special material, no machines.

  • All instructions for each lesson are complete and thorough, giving you specific information on what exactly you need to say and do.

  • The program has been carefully researched and designed to utilise the best of several methodologies. Therefore, while symbols and text may be “weird” or unrecognizable, be assured that each one serves a distinct purpose.

  • This program is designed as a stand-alone, independent reading program. Given the extremely short duration of the entire program, and the vast skills imparted in this short duration, it is NOT recommended to use this in combination with any other program.

Each lesson is designed so that you take no longer than 30 minutes each day, including your preparation time.  Yes, we understand the attention spans of children in this age group, and the time constraints of busy parents too!

Upon completion of the program, you will have carefully observed and participated in the step-by-step development of your child’s reading skills.

Observe the following too: The program works so successfully, that long before the completion of the 50 days, your child will turn on to reading. Our surroundings are filled with wonderful written words, and your child will read each of them with great pride.

As you watch them and participate with great pride too!

Welcome to this wonderful journey, and all the very best to you and your child!

Note to Parents:

The following are the four most important points to note about creating an effective sequence for teaching reading.

  1.  The initial lessons are extremely simple, and do not resemble exercises that appear as your child advances.

  2. All skills that your child needs to pick up to read effectively are covered within the lesson plans of this program.

  3. All changes in the lessons take place gradually and with relatively insignificant edits, so that your child will effortlessly transition.

  4. All communication between you and your child needs to be clear and unambiguous. All lessons detail this out for you too.

Getting Ready

Before you start teaching your child, you need to do three things:

  1. Create a teaching schedule

  2. Learn the sounds introduced in the program, particularly the first ten.

  3. Practice making some corrections.

Do also practice presenting the lessons in the program before you do so with your child, so you have an idea of how to present it to your child.

All the best!
